  • Year 3 and 4 Rounders Competition

    Mon 28 Jun 2021

Despite the grey start to the day, the sun was shining as our Year 3 and 4 Rounders team arrived at their venue.  The wonderful staff and students of St. Georges were there to greet us again and lead the events organised by Gary Reese, our local School Games Organiser.  We felt very lucky that we were able to compete in this friendly against local schools.

Our first match was against at year 5/6 side from Haddon Dene.  durig a hard played game we found our stride and had some great batting from the whole team.  Annie and Kaiyan demonstrated some amazing bowling.  Dante showed his running skills as he completed an exceptionally quick few rounders.

Our next opponents were a Year 6 team from Upton, again our team proudly worked together to complete a good amount of rounders.  The bowling team was ably led by Isabella and Romeo who formed a strong bowler/bat stop partnership.  Our final match pitched us against the home side of St. George's Primary Year 3/4 team.  We were stiff competition for our opponents and scored many rounders with Martha and Louise leading our batting side.  Bella and Lydia showed off their bowling prowess with strong ball skills, ably assisted by James who managed to stump-out a few children on the fourth stump.

The children's great teamwork throughout a non-stop afternoon was awarded with medals for all, the awards were presented by Gary who rounded off a fun afternoon with the hope that we will be able to enjoy many more of these events in the future.

    Well done St. Joseph's.

  • Sports Week - The Story so far...

    Wed 23 Jun 2021

Well, the start of the week couldn't have looked worse weather wise with heavy showers forcing our first tournament event to be rescheduled to Friday morning.

Children did all get the opportunity to learn some Panna (Urban Football) skills with Yofi and Jacobo from the Yo Street Zone in the rain along with some professional tennis coaching with Gabriel from Broadstairs and St. Peter's Lawn Tennis Association.

The heavy rain did not dampen the spirits of children or coaches and there were many happy (but soggy) faces.

Tuesday promised better weather but our coaches were taking no chances, bringing along waterproofs just in case.

Yofi, Jacobo and Gabriel returned to further develop the skills the children had been taught the previous day.  Thankfully the rain was only very minor and had all but dried up by lunchtime.

After lunch, the first tournament could now take place.  Inter-house hockey between Year 3 and Year 4.  Following Covid guidelines, Years 5 and 6 provided a fantastic audience, complete with banners and cheerleading.  Highlights from the seven matches included a double hat trick from Benjamin in Year 3, leading his purpose team to second place while the winning Year 4 team, also purple, scooped the trophy, catapulting the purpose house into first place for house points.  Every child in both classes really gave it their all and everyone had a wonderful afternoon.

  • Another Success Story!

    Wed 23 Jun 2021

St. Joseph;s recently entered the KCSP Maths Competition on Sumdog.  It was a whole week of gruelling maths challenges that children completed online.  Not only did five children from our Year 3 class make it into the top ten in Kent, James M also came first place overall.

Due to the combined efforts of all the participats, our Year 3 class also came first in the whole competition, defeating competitors from both primary and secondary schools.

    Well done Mathemagicians!!

  • Tri-Golf Tournament

    Fri 18 Jun 2021

Despite the soggy start to the day, our Year 3 and 4 Golf team arrived at Margate Football Club, courtesy of Mrs Reid and Mr Stow, with sunny skies.

The wonderful students of Broadstairs College were there to greet us again and lead the events organised by Stephanie, our local School Games Organiser.

Gary was on hand to offer some comic relief as well.

The events started off well with Zone Ball and an incredible score thanks to some wonderful putting, particularly from Eva, Jamie and Esmae.

Go for Green let Ruben show off his powerful swing and Rosie her speedy retrieval.

Bullseye was brilliantly led with excellent putting from all.

Dominoes was another putting event and Julia, Eliza and Antonios showed that patience and perseverance pays off.

The scores kept raking up with Miya chipping so high she cleared the roof.

The final event gave Oakley a real chance to shine, proving he can chip a ball like a pro.

The children’s great teamwork throughout a non-stop afternoon was awarded with bronze medals and certificates for 3rd place presented by Gary.

    Well done St Joseph’s

  • Viking Bay invaded by Year 3 Environmental Warriors

    Fri 18 Jun 2021

"Year 3 have had an amazing trip to the beach at Viking bay !

We have looked at learning environments before , but did you realise what a fantastic opportunity a beach trip is for learning?

The children have used a map to safely navigate their way from school to the beach in a "walking bus".

They have conducted a treasure hunt where they have looked for and found smooth and rough objects, objects that are and objects that are not natural to the beach. They have used litter-pickers to collect rubbish and items that should not be on the beach and looked at the impact of each. How long does Styrofoam take to break down? Is rubber a natural material for the beach? They have found winkles and shells, seaweed and small creatures and have learnt how far the tide comes in when it turns in Viking Bay. There were some more practical lessons to do with wet socks and sand and how to get sand off your feet before you put your socks on. But it was a fantastic day and the children will be coming back to the beach in two weeks time when their next batch of beach learning is ready!

  • TEAMWORK PAYS OFF AT KWIK CRICKET TOURNAMENT

    Mon 14 Jun 2021

After almost two years break, Friday was the first opportunity for our school to once again show their sporting prowess in inter-school cricket.

Our Year 3/4 team got off to a great start with sports students from Broadstairs College providing coaching sessions and support throughout the morning.

Evan proved himself a master bowler and everyone batted strongly, eventually securing 5th place after a comfortable final win against St. Lawrence.

Faith earned herself an extra medal for her fantastic fielding against very tough competition.

After a brief break, Mrs. O'Halloran and Mr. Stow returned to the cricket ground once again, this time with our Year 5/6 girls team.

The atmosphere was electric throughout the afternoon with everyone putting their all into everything they did, including cheerleading for the batters!

Magic moments included Olivia O's fantastic catch out (not to mention batting out the park!) Lacey's sensational bowling, taking wicket after wicket.

In the end, thanks to the superb teamwork, the girls all brought home a silver medal after taking 2nd place.  Eliza earned additional medal for her amazing fielding and keeping everyone's spirits high with cheering.  What made the afternoon even more enjoyable was the friendly atmosphere throughout all the schools present.

Well done to everyone who took part.
