  • Bake-Off Bonanza in Reception Class

    Thu 24 Nov 2022

Baking allows an opportunity for children to use basic math and science skills such as counting, measuring ingredients and pouring into a measuring cup. This creates a great opportunity to explore maths and science as part of your own curriculum. There are endless benefits to including baking as part of your learning environment. Here you can see some of our own Reception children exploring these skills when baking apple crumble nests They peeled, cut and cooked the apples, then weighed ingredients, mixed them together and got very hands on in the process!

  • Commonweath Athlete Victoria Ohuruogu visits St. Joseph's

    Tue 15 Nov 2022

On Wednesday last week the children of St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School, Broadstairs were put through their paces by Commonwealth silver medalist, Victoria Ohuruogu.

Victoria led a sponsored event to raise money for sports and playground equipment for the school which consisted of the children completing a pro-athlete circuit. All of the children from Year R to Year 6 took part in the event that was enjoyed by all. Children had to complete a variety of heart-pumping tasks in under 5 minutes competing against eachother and themselves.

Once the strenuous activity had ended, Victoria held an assembly talking about the importance of patience and perseverance. She spoke about her journey to become Britain’s number 1 athlete over 400m and the set-backs that she had encountered. The children then had the opportunity to ask questions and find out more about this inspiring athlete.

The day ended with a presentation of her medals and a chance for the children to have their photo taken. All of the staff and children from St Joseph’s had a fantastic day and would like to extend their thanks to Victoria for delivering a fun-filled day.
