Catholic Social Teaching

Catholic Social Teaching is:

The underlying insight that everyone has the right and responsibility to live in our world constructively, not destructively, and to ensure that we leave it in a better state than when we entered it.

At the core of Catholic Social Teaching are a number of key concepts and principles. Chief among these are:

  • Human Dignity
  • The Common Good
  • Participation
  • Subsidiarity
  • Stewardship
  • The Option for the Poor
  • Solidarity
  • Distributive Justice
  • Promoting Peace

At St Joseph's, we focus on the principles of Catholic Social Teaching as part of our curriculum and through projects that involve supporting charities and taking action. These concepts link closely to our school values and therefore, enables our children to live these out in their everyday lives.
