  • French Day

    Fri 16 Jul 2021

    French Day

In  Early Years and KS1 the children very much enjoyed eating croissants,   painting in the style of Monet, making models of the Eiffel Tower and learning how to greet each other and count to 10 in French! We also enjoyed learning to sing Frere Jacques and Alouette, as well taking part in a whole school 'Head, shoulders, knees and toes' in French lead by Madame Bugsel in the KS1 playground. Year 2 also researched France as a country and made information posters.

In KS2 children enjoyed finding out how many heads were cut off during the French Revolution! Children watched a video explaining the story of July 14th 1789. Liberte, Egalite and Fraternite, - the removal of an absolute monarchy and the institution of the National Assembly - link to 'British' value of democracy. They went on a French colour scavenger hunt and learnt ice cream flavours in French. The croissants were a particular favourite in the morning. They also enjoyed the scenic views of the Tour de France whilst drawing in the style of Ben Heine. Some children also produced some Art inspired by the impressionist Claude Monet. Year 5 also had the Tour de France live streamed into the class via ITV 4 during the afternoon. Year 6 also made the most of having Madame Bugsel in the class and took part in lots of speaking and listening activities.

A lovely day was had by all!

  • Monster Kickabout

    Wed 07 Jul 2021

Monster Kickabout is a new action packed initiative from sports direct and Nike aimed at Primary and Secondary schools up and down the country.

Their goal is to get as many children as possible playing the beautiful game having spent the last year sitting indoors and on the sidelines.

After submitting our entry and waiting patiently , we were pleasantly surprised when we received £1000 worth of football equipment courtesy of Sports Direct and Nike, including new balls, an electric pump, cones and vests.  We also received a voucher to spend on more sports equipment worth £200.

So, this summer St. Joseph's took to the field for the most unique kickabout imaginable....

    Life Size Table Football!

teams took part in 6-a-side inflatable table football, complete with poles to see football in a completely different light.

We also took part in Urban Football skills training with the Yo! Street Zone!

  • Frog Jumps and Step Overs

    Mon 05 Jul 2021

What if football is not your sport?  What then?  Does the learning stop?  At St. Joseph's we realise that every child is different.  some of the children during sports week learnt some amazing things like 'Frog Jumps' and 'Step Overs' and some learnt how to take turns, how to share, how to make new friends who like what you do and how to interact with others.  Some learnt that sport is incredibly social, lovely and fun!! Some learnt that they prefer tennis or to dance with others!

"Everything and everyone around you is your teacher"

For those that enjoyed the children defying gravity here are more football skills pictures.  Our thanks to YO STREET ZONE.

  • Sports Week - The Story

    Thu 01 Jul 2021

Last week was Sports Week for the whole school and we had a wonderful time trying and learning new sports and activities with lots of different experts from the local community and our own teachers.  The week started wet, but that did not stop us or dampen our spirits!

Mr. Stow worked very hard to organise many sports events and liaise with local sports clubs.  Year 3 even did their times-tables to an exercise regime before learning football and tennis skills!

Did you know that sport provides some excellent opportunities to learn and that there is always a sport for everyone?  hat is why we try so many in sports week!  Having experts come in to introduce us to the basics and set good foundations of understanding with the children is what makes us a little different at St. Joseph's.  We believe that exposing the children to new experiences with experts can not only awaken their curiosity, but make their first memories of a topic, subject or sport be positive and life long.

Sport improves physical strength, flexibility, coordination and fitness, but also has a brilliant effect on mental health, wellbeing and outlook.  It increases your social group and your interactions with others as well as teaching respect and manners, when conducted properly.

Clubs and associations we work consistently throughout the year with and those that have worked with us during Sports Week are:-

Broadstairs and St. Peter's Lawn Tennis Club

    Yo!  StreetZone

    Thanet Passport

    Team Theme Kent

  • Transition Day

    Thu 01 Jul 2021

Today, Thursday 1st July is Transition day where children who are moving up a year group in September, have the opportunity to spend the day in their new class and meet their new teachers and support staff.  Ensuring that children's wellbeing and expectations are cared for and looked after is part of the care and sense of belonging that we work hard to provide at St. Joseph's.  the continuation of the children's personal, social and emotional development never stops and at St. Joseph's every year is a chance for progression in so many different ways, for all individuals in the school.  Our care runs from Year R all the way through to Year 6.  the children are excited and we can't wait for them to progress further.
