  • The Crowning of Mary

    Wed 17 May 2023

What a wonderful way to start the week with our Crowning of Mary Service.

Children were invited to bring a flower to school so that we could decorate our prayer corners.  Flowers were brought in abundance and proudly presented to Our Lady during the service.  The children were also able to bring along their own Rosaries for the celebration.

Our service began with the hymn Beautiful World, Mrs. Reid then led the children in prayer before Jenson and Zac were invited to crown Our Lady with the beautiful crown of fresh flowers.

Representatives from each class presented their flowers to Our Lady Mary and Mr. Pasola then invited Eva, Rachel and Benjamin from Year 5 to lead “The Decade of the Rosary”.

Mrs. Reid closed the service and we sang our final hymn ‘Hail Holy Queen’.

  • Hip Hip Hooray for Coronation Day!

    Fri 05 May 2023

St Josephs Year 5 walked to Broadstairs College for a fun filled day of celebration Street Party put on by the staff and students of the college, to celebrate the upcoming coronation of King Charles III. Along with St. Josephs, many other local schools took place for many fun activities. At the entrance Paddington Bear welcomed us, and we enjoyed our first arts and crafts activity where we decorated colouring sheets and played some popular traditional games including giant Connect Four and Heads and Tails. We even took pictures with Paddington.

After that we headed to the Forest School where we made medals from wood cuttings, wood cookies and did a forest scavenger hunt for words. After the hunt we worked out that the letters spelt Charles and found lots of wildlife and nature. Once we had finished activity two it was time for activity three. In activity three we got to draw Coronation art and messages on a mini cooper, we all drew crowns, thrones and objects that relate to the King. Then we had a game of Croquet and Giant Jenga…. it was really peaceful because the sun was shining and lots of robins were chirping in the trees.

At lunch time, we all sat at a really long table with Union Flag table cloths, where everyone got a Union Jack picnic box with a Union flag and a horn. Elli-May (a student from the college) lead us superbly in the National Anthem. When we were finished we headed over to the beach hut were we all enjoyed a ice cream in the sun.

Oakley,   another Year 5 pupil at St Joseph’s said  “I had an amazing day because we played party games and I got to spend time with my friends outside of the classroom, it was nice to celebrate the Kings coronation”

Our final activity for the day was a photo booth where we dressed up as kings and queens to have photos taken together. There were face paints, glitter hair and tattoos. We played cage football and made crowns.

The day ended with all the schools getting together for an epic dance off. We had an amazing day celebrating the Kings coronation. Our thanks go to the staff and students of Broadstairs College.
