  • Forever Blowing Bubbles

    Wed 27 Apr 2022

This week we have been blowing bubbles in Reception Class. Not just any bubbles, but giant bubbles! With the warm weather and the sun shining we have been blowing and chasing bubbles. But are we learning anything?

Actually quite a lot! Not just socially as we play together, use language, communicate, take turns to blow and chase and help each other,  but also we are developing something else. Can you guess?

Blowing bubbles is an excellent way for children to control their breathing. You can't blow bubbles well if you are unable to control your breath. Controlling their breathing can help children stay calm in difficult or anxious situations. Also, as we draw our cheeks in and purse our lips, we are developing and strengthening the muscles in our faces that we use to form clear sounds and eat and swallow safely. We are learning cause and effect, hand-eye coordination as we chase the bubbles, predict the wind direction and the height at which the bubbles climb. We learn that small bubble wands make small bubbles and giant bubble wands make . . . GIANT BUBBLES! We learn how to load the wand up correctly, so we get bubbles every time.

We learn all these things because blowing bubbles with others is fun and 'Enjoyment', which is one of our values, helps us to develop easily!

    'Aim high, achieve together!'
