KCSP Statement of Curriculum Intent
I have come so that they may have life and have it to the full
John 10: Chapter 10. v 10.
Inspired by Jesus Christ’s example and the Gospel values of love, joy and compassion, we nurture and develop the whole child so that each unique individual grows constantly in confidence, and has the knowledge, skills and self-esteem to achieve their true potential.
All children will access a rich, ambitious, challenging curriculum; one that is broad, balanced and relevant, fostering curiosity, creativity and a lifelong love of learning. It will prepare them well for each stage of education, employment or training and enable them , as educated citizens, to contribute to creating a better world.

Aim High Achieve Together
St Joseph’s Curriculum Intent
At St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School, we aim to inspire an enthusiasm for learning, achievement and involvement. Through our Gospel values we acknowledge our responsibility to enrich lives and show love and respect within our school community. Our Curriculum has been designed, using the National Curriculum as a starting point, so that every child can ‘live life in all its fullness’ by offering stimulating and inspiring learning experiences with Christian faith at its heart.
Every child is recognised as a unique individual. We recognise children’s prior learning providing first hand experiences, allowing the children to develop interpersonal skills, build resilience and become creative, critical thinkers; ‘aiming high and achieving together’. We celebrate and welcome differences within our diverse school community.
The Curriculum challenges each child to reach their full potential and learning is underpinned by the teaching of knowledge, building skills developing concepts and values with a vision to prepare them for life beyond primary school. We provide enhanced opportunities for enrichment in Sport, Art, Science, Prayer and Diversity. We believe that childhood should be a happy, enquiring time, where there are no limits to curiosity, experiences and knowledge inside and outside of the classroom.
As a one form entry school St Joseph’s believes in promoting a positive attitude through our school values of Belonging, Caring, Enjoyment, Respect and Teamwork. These values promote responsibility for future success, where we learn to work collaboratively within our year groups, local schools and the wider community.
We endeavour that children at St Joseph’s will learn and respect British Values, engage in decision making, be democratic and know that with rights comes responsibility. Ultimately our curriculum is intended to:
- Develop our mind and body : What we learn
- Develop our hearts and soul: Who we are
- Develop our attitudes and mindsets: How we live and learn
- Develop our sense of self and morals: Where we fit in the world and our responsibility to others.
Living out our Five School Values
Belonging: We are members of many families and our school has strong links with the parish and the local community.

Caring: We care for God’s world and we appreciate its beauty and each other.

Enjoyment: Create life long memories in a nurturing safe environment.

Respect: We are open to the opinions of others and celebrate our differences.

Teamwork: Working together with parents and agencies to achieve our best.
