PE

PE Intent

At St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School, we strive to deliver a variety of high-quality PE sessions, so every child has the opportunity to find a sport that suits them. Every child is taught two sessions a week and have regular swimming sessions. We encourage children to lead a healthy lifestyle and see sport as a big part of this.
We provide a wide range of exciting sports that go beyond the National Curriculum, offer a variety of extra sports clubs and have strong links with local sports teams. This enables every child to try a huge range of different sports and hopefully find a sport that enthuses them. We have a Try Sports club that has been created to boost participation in sports and encourage children to try something new.

Our sports coaches are highly skilled and encourage children to aim high and achieve together, understanding that not every child sees PE as an exciting part of the school day. We aim to build on physical development in young children by providing opportunities for young children to be active and interactive; and to develop their co-ordination, control, and movement. Our sessions are inclusive and always taught with fun and learning at the heart, with the hope of sowing the seed of life-long participation in sports.
We offer some of our most vulnerable and disadvantaged children the opportunity to experience sports/competitive sporting events and activities that they would otherwise not have access to and this is highlighted in our Sports Week.

We believe sports can offer more than just physical benefits and the skills learnt during PE sessions can be used across school life. PE offers a fantastic opportunity for all children to engage with core school values as caring, respect, enjoyment, teamwork and a sense of belonging are at the centre of our school sports teaching and how we expect our children to represent our school.
