French Day

French Day

In  Early Years and KS1 the children very much enjoyed eating croissants,   painting in the style of Monet, making models of the Eiffel Tower and learning how to greet each other and count to 10 in French! We also enjoyed learning to sing Frere Jacques and Alouette, as well taking part in a whole school 'Head, shoulders, knees and toes' in French lead by Madame Bugsel in the KS1 playground. Year 2 also researched France as a country and made information posters.

In KS2 children enjoyed finding out how many heads were cut off during the French Revolution! Children watched a video explaining the story of July 14th 1789. Liberte, Egalite and Fraternite, - the removal of an absolute monarchy and the institution of the National Assembly - link to 'British' value of democracy. They went on a French colour scavenger hunt and learnt ice cream flavours in French. The croissants were a particular favourite in the morning. They also enjoyed the scenic views of the Tour de France whilst drawing in the style of Ben Heine. Some children also produced some Art inspired by the impressionist Claude Monet. Year 5 also had the Tour de France live streamed into the class via ITV 4 during the afternoon. Year 6 also made the most of having Madame Bugsel in the class and took part in lots of speaking and listening activities.

A lovely day was had by all!
