World Book Day 2021

Year 6 have had a very busy and enjoyable World Book Day.  Everyone wore their pyjamas to school which was a lot of fun.

the day started by watching a video recorded by Mrs. Lomas, suitable for in-school and home learners.  It told the class about the books available to exchange their world Book Day vouchers with.

Next on the agenda was a well-being session where Year 6 continued to embroider their own bookmarks.  After Maths, there was a quiet reading session enjoying class reader books.

After break they enjoyed a video made for them by Fancy Nancy.  It was very funny and passed on an important message about internet safety.

Then there was a session of short stories ready to the class by Natalie.  A World Book Day quiz followed that which really challenged the knowledge of books that they have read.

Following the quiz they wrote their own short sotries, using Pobble as a prompt.  The stories were then performed to the class.

Finally the class looked at the Oxford Owl webiste and had free choice to investigate the books available.

Phew!! What a fantastic World Book Day.

Year 4 have had a very busy and enjoyable World Book Day.  Everyone wore their pyjamas to school which was a lot of fun.

The day started by watching a video recorded by Mrs. Lomas explaining about the books available to exchange our world Book Day vouchers with.

Next on the agenda was a World Book Day comprehension activity, followed by a word search and a crossword.

After break we enjoyed a video of Fancy Nancy reading us a very funny story with an important message about internet safety. Then we were detectives trying to solve The Mystery of the Best World Book Day Costume using our maths problem solving skills.

In the afternoon we had a World Book Day quiz, followed by an Escape Room called ‘Lost in the Library’. We had great fun and even had a bit of time at the end of the day for some quiet reading with a book of our choice 😊

Reception Class  started the day by introducing themselves to Fancy Nancy and listening to her story!  They then did a scavenger hunt looking for different book characters.  The class talked about favourite book characters and the children made them using cardboard tubes and materials.  The models included Sleeping Beauty, Red Riding Hoot, The Wolf, Princess Lea, Ben 10 and Jack.

The class then read 'The World made a Rainbow' story and experimented with colour mixing to make their own colourful paintings and rainbow.

The children also chose to 'read' books to each other and had the idea to film themselves doing it. They built a reading den in the classroom and then decided to incorporate the shop and sell the books taking telephone orders.

Maths was linked in with a story of 'Ten Black Dots' and they practised number bonds to ten.

The day of fun finished with the story of Hansel and Gretel.

Year 5's day began with listening to the story read by Fancy Nancy on video.  This was followed by a 'Lost in the Library' code breaking activity.  Then they participated in an interactive World Book Day quiz, playing in teams, with prizes.  There were other child orientated cross curricular activities throughout the day based around World Book Day.

There was a celebration tea party  to mark the end of their time as a small group .  party food was enjoyed whilst discussing favourite books, the majority being Harry Potter.  Lots of fun was had and everyone is looking forward to the class being back together next week.
