Aim high achieve together

Reception Class learn communication 'Teamwork'

At St Joseph's all our learning is supported by our school values. Take 'Teamwork' for instance. It is greatly enhanced by communication. We communicate in lots of ways; writing, speech, gestures, noises, facial expressions, pictures, both individually and in combination.

In fact, as one of the major developmental tasks in early childhood, learning to communicate is key for children to interact with the people in their world and to have their needs met. Few tasks in early childhood are as important as this one! Communication development for young children includes gaining the skills to understand and to express thoughts, feelings, and information.

Imagine building a tower together from large wooden blocks whilst communicating with Walkie-Talkies? - "Over!". How would you get on? - "Over!". Would you be able to accurately ask for what you need? Would you remember to take your finger off the button so someone else could communicate? Would you say 'over' at the end of sentences? "Over!".

Behold the tallest tower in the world! Built by Reception engineers, using wooden blocks, walkie-talkies and, you guessed it, 'Teamwork".

"Aim high, achieve together!"
