Football success for St. Joseph's

What a great day for St Joseph’s!

The annual Junior Football Tournament at St Lawrence College got off to a great start.

The first match, against Holy Trinity, got off to a good start with a strong offensive culminating in a very near miss for Sonny. As the match progressed, every player worked their hardest and gave St Joseph’s a well deserved win after Sonny’s second attempt soared into the back of the net.

Match 2 against St Lawrence College was fast paced with Benjamin working hard in the wing and some great footwork from James. Bobbie scored a cracking goal and another win for St Joseph’s.

Match 3 with as a struggle as the team were still reeling from their victory and had to stay on pitch with no rest. This unfortunately gave Palm Bay the advantage and despite some great footwork and Jensen’s incredible goalkeeping it was a loss for St Joseph’s.

Due to the points scored in other games, we won our group and earned a spot in the semi-final.

This was one of the hardest games of the day and fatigue was starting to set in but St Joseph’s showed determination and great teamwork, despite having never all played together before. Both Bobbie and Sonny scored with the final score 2-1 and a place in the final.

The final showdown was the toughest yet. Upton had fielded an older side with only year 6s on pitch and the tiredness started to show once more.

Team St Joseph’s, however made those Uptoners work harder than ever and finally ended up with a well earned second place, beating 6 other schools.

Well done everyone and special thanks to parents and families for staying to support and Mrs Attkins for wonderful photography and support.
