Salve! A day in the life of an Ancient Roman

Year 3 embarked on an immersive journey back to Ancient Rome, transforming their classroom into a vibrant Roman world.

️ Writing in Latin

We began our day by learning how to write our names using the Latin alphabet. This exercise not only introduced us to a new script but also connected us to the Romans’ way of communication.

🛡️ Gladiator Experience

Next, they delved into the life of a gladiator. Through engaging music and sound effects, they imagined themselves stepping into the Colosseum, ready to face the crowd. This immersive experience inspired them to write diary entries from the perspective of a gladiator, capturing the anticipation and courage of the moment.

🕰️ Roman Timekeeping

The exploration continued with learning to tell time using Roman numerals. Each of them crafted their own Roman-style clock, gaining insight into how the Romans managed time and the significance of their numeral system.

🏺 Artefact Exploration

The day also featured a hands-on session with genuine Roman artefacts, including a helmet and coins. This allowed the children to connect with the past and understand the daily life and culture of the Romans.

🛡️ Shield Making and Army Drills

In the afternoon, the class designed and created their own Roman shields, embodying the spirit of a Roman soldier. They practiced traditional formations and commands, experiencing firsthand the discipline and teamwork of the Roman army.

Roman Day was a fantastic culmination of their recent studies, bringing history to life through interactive and enjoyable activities. The enthusiasm and effort displayed by all students made the day truly memorable.
