Aim high achieve together

A historical walk around Broadstairs

Learning doesn’t always need to be in the classroom as our Year 6 children discovered on their recent historical tour of Broadstairs. Following the exploits of notorious local smuggler Joss Snelling they learnt how smuggling was a way of life for some people during the 18th and 19th century and that Joss Bay was the preferred landing site for Snelling.

Another historical link to Broadstairs are the steps leading down to nearby Stone Bay which were the inspiration for John Buchan’s 1915 novel ‘The Thirty Nine Steps’

Ending up at secluded Joss Bay they enjoyed their lunch and some games before visiting a local farm where they fed horses, tortoises, reindeer and alpacas.

When the sun is shining there is nothing better than being out and about, getting fresh air and exercise and learning along the way!
