Year 4

Year 4 hatch chicks in the classroom

There is no better classroom experience than witnessing the birth of a living thing right before your very eyes!

Year 4 have experienced the wonder of watching 10 eggs incubating for the last 3 weeks, wobbling around and cheeping before beginning the process of hatching. Anticipation and excitement grew as the tiny chicks began to cheep and make tiny holes in their shells.

8 chicks have now pecked their way out of their shells and after drying off and fluffing up have been popped into their brooding box to eat and drink.   The children are eagerly anticipating the arrival of the final two chicks just before breaking up for their Easter holidays.

What a wonderful experience for the children who have learnt how to care for and hold the tiny chicks before they get big and strong enough to be moved to their forever home.

WORLD BOOK DAY

Year 4 have had a very busy and enjoyable World Book Day.  Everyone wore their pyjamas to school which was a lot of fun.

The day started by watching a video recorded by Mrs. Lomas explaining about the books available to exchange our world Book Day vouchers with.

Next on the agenda was a World Book Day comprehension activity, followed by a word search and a crossword.

After break we enjoyed a video of Fancy Nancy reading us a very funny story with an important message about internet safety. Then we were detectives trying to solve The Mystery of the Best World Book Day Costume using our maths problem solving skills.

In the afternoon we had a World Book Day quiz, followed by an Escape Room called ‘Lost in the Library’. We had great fun and even had a bit of time at the end of the day for some quiet reading with a book of our choice 😊
