Reception

World Book Day

For World Book Day, Reception class came dressed as their favourite traditional tale character.  Each child had drawn a picture of their favourite character and told the class why they liked them.  We had a world book day character huntanbd then focused the day around the story of The Gingerbread Man.  Children baked their own gingerbread men and decorated them, we made ginger play dough, created gingerbread transient art and played a guess the character game.

Term 2 has been a busy one for Reception class.  They have been very lucky to have visits from a Nurse, a Mum and baby and the Police.

Here are a selection of photos from our recent visits.

RECEPTION CLASS LOCKDOWN LEARNING JOURNEY

Since January the children have worked hard at home and school. They have produced lots of lovely topic work around the theme of ‘Fantasy and Adventure’, ‘Chinese New Year’ and more recently looking at ‘Traditional Tales’. They have looked at magical characters, superheroes, monsters, knights and dragons as well as some well-loved tales.

The children have continued to work on their phase 3 sounds in phonics with some now working on phase 4!

In Maths they have looked at comparing and working with numbers to ten. They have become confident at subitising, using ten frames, begun learning to use the part – whole method and working with objects to solve number problems. They have also looked at 3D shapes, patterns and measures, with children having made their own playdough, baked cakes, created patterns and constructed models!

In their writing children have used what they have learnt in phonics and English lessons to produce letters, postcards, wanted posters, speech bubbles and more!

They have completed topic related challenges and from the photos, you can see the wide range of work produced using a range of materials and the children’s own ideas.

In addition, the children have continued to practise their Spanish, take part in PE sessions and use purple mash to complete ICT activities.

We have enjoyed meeting for our zoom catch ups where the children have taken part in scavenger hunts, quizzes, story time, songs and games.

We are incredibly proud of all their efforts during this time and are looking forward to welcoming everyone back!

Mrs Attkins & Mrs Horn

Reception Class  started the day by introducing themselves to Fancy Nancy and listening to her story!  They then did a scavenger hunt looking for different book characters.  The class talked about favourite book characters and the children made them using cardboard tubes and materials.  The models included Sleeping Beauty, Red Riding Hoot, The Wolf, Princess Lea, Ben 10 and Jack.

The class then read 'The World made a Rainbow' story and experimented with colour mixing to make their own colourful paintings and rainbow.

The children also chose to 'read' books to each other and had the idea to film themselves doing it. They built a reading den in the classroom and then decided to incorporate the shop and sell the books taking telephone orders.

Maths was linked in with a story of 'Ten Black Dots' and they practised number bonds to ten.

The day of fun finished with the story of Hansel and Gretel.
